Welcome to our Parent Page!!

We support parents by providing numerous resources to assist in doing that very big job of raising our children.  WECAS also offers various parenting programs throughout the year.

Parenting Program:  10 Steps to Positive Discipline

The 10 Steps to Positive Discipline Principles:

  • Know your child
  • Know what is developmentally appropriate behaviour
  • Adults are accountable as models
  • Adults must maintain control
  • Adults must see the world from the child’s point of view
  • Adults must speak clearly and assertively to children
  • Recognize that discipline is an opportunity to teach, not punish
  • Recognize that we must be in relationship with the child
  • Seek solutions, not blame
  • Communicate with the intention of love, not fear

Non-Violent Parenting Can Produce Children Who:

    • Are less aggressive
    • Internalize moral values
    • Feel closer to their parents
    • Are less likely to become criminals
    • Are less likely to hit their future spouses
    • Have better mental health

Parenting Program:  Beginning at Birth - What's Normal and Healthy?

Beginning at Birth - What is Normal & Healthy?  Children's Sexual Health promotes open, respectful communication between adults and children, granting comfort on the part of adults in dealing with sexuality issues. The course is based on the belief that parents are the primary sexuality educators of their children. This comprehensive 6-week workshop will provide parents with information about healthy sexual development as well as an opportunity to examine their own values, communication styles and comfort level with regard to sexuality.

This program has been made possible by a grant from the

Ontario Trillium Foundation.

The History of the Program

In 1990, the Care for Kids program was created in New Brunswick. Care for Kids was developed, incorporating what is known and understood about sexual health, child sexual abuse, early childhood learning, growth and development, community development and parental roles. The goal of Care for Kids is to prevent child sexual abuse through sexual health education and promotion.  We in Windsor have found that the title wasn't clear enough to parents, and have now renamed it:  Beginning at Birth - What is Normal & Healthy?  Children's Sexual Health

Special thank you to Mary Lynch, and Leslie Monaghan, Early Childhood Social Workers, New Brunswick Department of Family and Community Services & the Leeds, Grenville & Lanark District Health Unit.
