Re: October is Child Abuse Prevention Month

The Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies designates October as Child Abuse Prevention Month in the province of Ontario while the Municipality of the City of Windsor has proclaimed the month. Each year, a local campaign aims to raise awareness of our year-round efforts to reduce child abuse and neglect in our community, and to limit its effects when it does occur.

Through public education, a media campaign and public events, we reach out to our community to raise awareness about this important issue, to assist community partners and citizens in learning how to better identify and report child abuse and neglect, and to provide simple ways in which all citizens can act as agents of prevention to protect our most vulnerable population.

 During the month of October the following initiatives will take place:

*      Workshop:  Man Talk! Raising Our Boys to Be Good Men - Thursday October 27

      Professional Development Day: Engaging Men and Boys to End Violence Against Women and Children - Friday October 28

*      Go Purple for Prevention!  (Hold a 'go purple' event at your school or workplace)

*      Child Abuse Prevention Media Campaign

*      Foster Parent Appreciation Week October 16 – 23, 2011
